THE HOUSE AND THE NATURAL PARK OF MONTESINHO
The House of Marroes is situated right in the middle of Natural Park of Montesinho (created in 1979 with one area of 75.000 ha) - Area of the river Baceiro - and it is surrounded by dazzling landscapes where century old oak and chestnut tree woods stared out ("touças and soutos") and cold and clear water rivers flow between fresh and green meadows.

It is a perfect and privileged lodgement for nature lovers, permitting to admire the richness of local fauna (wolf, fox, white stork, wild board, otter, deer ...) – there are 48 mammiferous in the total of 240 vertebrate animals - and flora (holm-oak, ash-trees, broom plantation, heath, spurge-laurel, rosemary.....). Our visitors will find in the hospitality and kidness local people and the local gastronomy another reason for knowing this region, which for its singularity and preservation, justifies its application to be classified as Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
